The 2026 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Frankfurt am Main delivered close medal battles across both individual and group events. Darja Varfolomeev won the individual all-around in front of her home crowd and added gold medals in the Ball and Ribbon finals. Taisiia Onofriichuk took the Hoop title, while Stiliana Nikolova won Clubs.

Spain claimed the Group All-Around title, Russia led the Team standings, and Brazil finished the championships with two victories in the Group apparatus finals.

Darja Varfolomeev won qualification and retained first place in the final. Clubs proved decisive: she improved from 27.95 in qualification to 31.50, then closed the all-around with 29.65 for Ribbon.

Stiliana Nikolova remained among the leaders throughout the championships, placing second in qualification and taking silver in the final. Four scores of at least 29.00 put her just 0.05 ahead of Sofia Raffaeli.

Sofia Raffaeli moved from fifth in qualification to third in the final. Hoop was again her strongest apparatus, with 30.40 after the leading qualification score of 30.10, and she added 30.25 for Clubs.

Taisiia Onofriichuk made the biggest move inside the top five, climbing from 12th in qualification to fourth in the final. Strong Ball and Clubs routines helped her reach 116.05.

Mariia Borisova finished qualification in third place and reached all four apparatus finals. Four more steady routines in the all-around put her fifth, only 0.05 behind Taisiia Onofriichuk.

Darja Varfolomeev had a few minor inaccuracies on risks but completed the routine without a loss to win the final. Sofiia Ilteriakova delivered a clean routine for silver, while Mariia Borisova secured bronze after several difficult catches.

Apparatus losses prevented Sofia Raffaeli, Zilu Wang and Alina Harnasko from finishing higher. The Ball went out of bounds for both Wang and Harnasko, requiring a replacement apparatus and adding penalties to their final scores.

Taisiia Onofriichuk recovered one risk without a major error and won the final. Sofia Raffaeli finished second, while Darja Varfolomeev took bronze despite a few small hesitations.

The top five remained close: Takhmina Ikromova finished only 0.70 behind the winner. Mariia Borisova left the floor together with the Hoop, and the resulting 0.60 penalty had a major effect on her score.

Stiliana Nikolova won the final by the narrowest margin. Taisiia Onofriichuk and Mariia Borisova received identical scores, with the tie-break criteria deciding silver and bronze.

Mariia Borisova handled her routine confidently, while Taisiia Onofriichuk also passed 30 points despite a minor inaccuracy near the end. A loss kept Megan Chu out of contention for the leading places.

Sofiia Ilteriakova performed a clean and confident routine but remained fourth. An error on the final throw kept Alina Harnasko from finishing higher, while Akmaral Yerekesheva lost the Ribbon during a boomerang element.

Group All-Around results protocol

Spain won the Group All-Around with two balanced routines: 28.50 for 5 Balls and the highest score of the day in the mixed event, 28.95.

Japan moved into second place after a strong finish. A small recovery in the 5 Balls routine did not prevent the team from scoring 28.15, which followed 28.55 for 3 Hoops and 2 Pairs of Clubs.

Brazil remained on the podium despite a loss with 5 Balls. The team scored 28.70 in the mixed routine, one of the highest marks of the competition, to secure bronze.

About the Event

The 42nd Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships took place in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, from 12 to 16 August 2026. Across five competition days, medals were awarded in the individual programme, Group events and the combined Team standings.

Festhalle Frankfurt, one of the city's best-known arenas, hosted the championships. The event brought together the leading individual gymnasts and national Groups of the 2026 international season.

World Championships in Frankfurt

Gymnasts at the 2026 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Frankfurt

The entry list featured 100 individual gymnasts, while 42 national teams were entered in the Group competition. The host nation was represented by Darja Varfolomeev, Lada Pusch and Anastasiia Simakova in the individual programme.

Darja Varfolomeev competed in front of her home crowd after winning the individual All-Around at the 2026 European Championships in Varna. Russia entered Sofiia Ilteriakova and Mariia Borisova as individual gymnasts and also competed in the Group events.

Competition Format

The top 18 gymnasts from qualification advanced to the individual All-Around final. Gymnasts ranked from 10th to 18th competed in the first final group, followed by the qualifiers ranked from first to ninth.

The eight highest-ranked gymnasts on each apparatus qualified for the apparatus finals, with a maximum of two gymnasts per country in each final.

Groups performed two routines: 5 Balls and 3 Hoops / 2 Pairs of Clubs. The top eight Groups from qualification advanced to each apparatus final.

Combined Team Standings

The championships included a combined Team medal event bringing together the qualification results of a country's individual gymnasts and its Group. The Team total comprised the eight best individual apparatus scores and the two Group All-Around scores.

To be eligible for the Team standings, a country had to enter at least two individual gymnasts and one Group.

Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Qualification

Frankfurt 2026 was the first rhythmic gymnastics qualification event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

In the individual competition, the top three gymnasts in the All-Around final earned one quota place for their respective National Olympic Committees. In the Group competition, the top three countries in the Group All-Around each earned one quota place for a five-gymnast Group.

The quota places earned at the championships were allocated to the countries rather than to the individual athletes by name.

Participants and Groups

The individual field included athletes representing established medal-winning programmes as well as developing rhythmic gymnastics nations from Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa and Oceania. The 42-team Group field included Spain, Japan, Brazil, Germany, Ukraine, Bulgaria, China, Russia, Belarus, Italy and many other national teams.
